History

Gebr. van Leeuwen Harmelen was a family business that was started in the 1930s by J. van Leeuwen and his five sons under the name of Loonbedrijf Van Leeuwen. During the depression and the Second World War, the company took on any jobs it could get, from lifting trees and pressing bales of straw, to clearing snow and offering taxi services. After the war, Van Leeuwen and sons turned the company into a modern agricultural and building contracting company.

Differentiation

In 1969, three of the five brothers continued the agricultural contracting company under the name of Fa. J. van Leeuwen, agricultural and horticultural contracting company. The two younger brothers, M.T. van Leeuwen Snr and A.D. van Leeuwen Snr, continued under the name of Gebr. van Leeuwen Harmelen B.V., a contracting company for earthworks and civil engineering.

Specialisation

In 1974, in order to obtain an autonomous market position, Gebr. van Leeuwen started specialising in anchoring techniques and the crossings of – mainly infrastructural – objects. Inventiveness then became part of the company's tradition. By making creative use of existing solutions and devising techniques and solutions that do not exist yet, Gebr. van Leeuwen has built up its reputation as a company that goes on where others give up.

Innovation

A pragmatic approach and a continuous focus on solutions has led to many innovations, practical finds and efficient applications. Gebr. van Leeuwen is the holder of several patents, including ones for the well-known Leeuwanchors, Leeuwanchor piles and LEKA piles (together with Kandt Fundering). Every problem is interesting, every possible solution is worth studying.

Growth

In recent years, Gebr. van Leeuwen has grown into the Dutch market leader for complex anchoring and foundation projects.

Gebr. van Leeuwen has been part of Ballast Nedam since 2006. Since the shares in Gebr. Van Leeuwen Boringen BV were sold in late 2013, we have been able to fully focus on anchors and foundations. This is a market segment in which we, as a specialist, have had a strong and independent position for quite some time and of which we are very proud.

Our new company name is Van Leeuwen Verankeringen en Funderingssystemen.

Today

In early 2016, Ballast Nedam was taken over by Rönesans Holding. This new and strong owner has enabled Van Leeuwen to benefit from the wind of change that has been blowing through the company. Van Leeuwen Verankeringen en Funderingssystemen is now part of Ballast Nedam Marine & Civil. We provide bespoke solutions, with a traditional family spirit.
